about

Here is the beautiful story of a jilted West Indians Negro laborer who worked at different areas of the Caribbean including the Cane fields of Cuba and the mud drenches of the Canal which was being built at Panama to join the two great ‘’seas’’ (Atlantic and Pacific Oceans). Inexplicably and for no apparent reasons his Spanish girlfriend loses interest in him and breaks the romance. This of course confuses him for he was faithful as a lover to her and she always appeared happy with him.
He did not understand why until a distant family relative of his explained that he could well be the recipient of an act of Retributions originating from the maltreatment and desertion which his great-grandfather administered to various women of his time. The pattern of this Calypso is believed unique to Panama. The chorus is built into the song as an integral
part of it.

lyrics

Muchacha, what is the matter with you and me,
Like you don’t love e anymore as you had said once before.

I want you to please return and again be mine...
What is the cause of your leaving...
Give me your heart one more time.

I left from de island working all ‘round the Caribbean.
Then I reach a Spanish country where I met this young woman.

We were so happy that’s why I can’t understand.
How her mind changed in a sudden like I was another man.

I want you to remember lovely days we spent together
Celebrating many fiestas, eating rice, and drinking rum.

I had a little money: Cuban cane fields paying plenty
Canal work at Panama seas, and you were my sugar plum.

I want to think it’s Retribution that's fall on me in this foreign land.
My ‘father did some dirty actions, in his days deserted several women.

Life is a book of complexities. My good intentions (are) wrecked by his deeds.

So from this day on, I know that you’ll reap what you’d sown, even in future generations.
